In light of all Paul has said about us being taught by Christ, Himself... allowing the Holy Spirit to show us what is to be put away... revealing what is to be put on, now He want's to show us something specific. That is why He starts this verse with, "Therefore"... Paul is transitioning from the principle of being renewed in our minds... putting on the new life Eph 4:22, 23, 24) to the personal practice of our faith (our walk with Christ).
Here in verse 25, we move from this general idea of being transformed, to specific miracles that we should see (experience) in the process as we continue reading, all the way through Eph 6:9. The first one we see here is, "rejecting all falsity and being done now with it".
Here again, we have evidence that it is a process of transformation. Should you die right now, you are transformed already... I mean, as far as God sees, you are clean (clothed in righteousness), but ONLY because of CHRIST'S covering! However, until you do die, Christ has plans to "make good" His covering... He's working, "as much as we allow Him" to transform us. The evidence is that, "how can we reject all falsity when we've not known what is false? For a new Christian, our study of God's Word and revelation by The Holy Spirit is only now beginning to show us what is false! Hearing the truth has only begun to change what we considered, assumed, and believed was real.
And so we see it is a process whereby, the more we apply ourselves to the Holy Spirit's leading, the reading of God's Word, and setting under the ministry of a Godly teacher, hearing the truth regularly, etc., the easier it is to know and recognize what is false!
Finally, we see the thread in our context here goes all the way back to the truth earlier in this same letter concerning us, now, as members of one body, as he says, "let everyone express the truth with his neighbor, for we are all parts of one body and members one of another. This is why many of us are so compelled to share as we do. Not only do we share what we are led to understand as truth, but also to share what we know is false. But even as I am writing this, the Holy Spirit is reminding me that even this we should do ONLY as He (the Holy Spirit) leads.
Let's pick up with Ephesians verse 4:26 next time.
I love you.
