"Even so husbands should love their wives as [being in a sense] their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself." Ephesians 5:28
This is definitely referring to God's love and not what we "reason" to be love... because I would not want to be loved the way the world loves their bodies... Amen. What I see them do to themselves out of what they believe is love is a nightmare today. Thank God for any husband whom allows the Holy Spirit to love his wife through himself without holding back. The Holy Spirit is well aware of the "oneness" of husband and wife. The Holy Spirit never let's the husband forget it either. The wife of a husband under Christ's direction is part of himself and they are part of Christ's body. Back to Genesis for a moment... Eve was taken from Adam's body... Christ had breathed life into them... Three in one, one in the three... it's just the way it's suppose to be!
29. "For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and carefully protects and cherishes it, as Christ does the church."
Here the text is quite easy to understand if we consider two things... it's still speaking of a true Spirit filled person, and Flesh, refers to skin and bone and not to our sinful nature. What man or woman who loves God can hate themselves?
Let's pick up with Ephesians verse 5:30 next time.
I love you.
