"So speak and so act as [people should] who are to be judged under the law of liberty [the moral instruction given by Christ, especially about love]." James 2:12
Friends, if you will imagine with me for a moment... James has been walking us, one step at a time, up to a point where we should see how amazingly God has made a beautiful way to "follow" His way of living, which pleases Him... while taking away the yoke (burden) of it.
Here, in verse 12, again James refers to the "law of liberty". The Amplified correctly adds... "the moral instruction given by Christ, especially about love", because we will see...the Gospel law of love, which is not a law of external constraint, but of internal, free, instinctive inclination. The law of liberty, (thanks to God's mercy, the sacrifice of Christ), frees us from the curse of the law, enabling us to be free to love and obey willingly. WHY... because while we are "allowing" God's love to fill us, to chip away at our earth-born idea of love, chip away at bitterness and hate... to train us up in love, and send us out in love... while we are focusing on love, Christ is changing us into His likeness... which was, SINLESS. I'm getting ahead of the scripture here, but that's where we are going.
Back to verse 12, notice James says to speak and act as people judged by the law of love. That is the teachings of Christ Jesus... and the "speaking and action" he refers to are the fruit of God's love actually being manifested out of us, by the work of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. If this is not happening in our life, there will be cause for alarm for any of us whom have been deceived into a false sense of salvation, as we'll see further in our study.
Let's pick up with James verse 2:13 next time.
I love you.
