James 4:5‏

5. "Or do you suppose that the Scripture is speaking to no purpose that says, The Spirit Whom He has caused to dwell in us yearns over us and He yearns for the Spirit [to be welcome] with a jealous love?"

God has given every man and woman their own spirit, which we know will never die... it is the part of each of us that moves (once released, upon the death of our body), into the eternal side of life. Relating to this whole problem of dealing with trials, the tongue, and worldly wisdom or God's wisdom, James cuts to the reality of what is going on inside. Our spirit, he says, yearns over us. And what our spirit yearns for, until we are saved, we are quite ignorant of. We have little idea of how to satisfy this yearning because we don't understand what it wants.

Then, James says, God yearns for the Holy Spirit to connect with our spirit... with a jealous love. Upon salvation, He gives us His Spirit to finally connect our spirit with Him and His way... to quench the yearning, to replace sinful, evil tendencies He is jealous in His love because everything we battle with can be worked out "if" we would just connect. How can we make our spirit connect with the presence of the Holy Spirit?

Let's pick up with James verse 4:6 next time.

I love you.
