"Because of the hope [of experiencing what is] laid up (reserved and waiting) for you in heaven. Of this [hope] you heard in the past in the message of the truth of the Gospel" Colossians 1:5.
Here in verse five, Our Father has stirred Paul to move our attention out onto the horizon again. He refers to "the hope". This hope is not like, "oh boy, I really hope this is true," kind of hope. It's God getting back to His original plan. God created us so He could "LIVE" among us, walking, talking, continually present with us the way it was in the garden with Adam and Eve. It's heaven, once again, "here" on earth. And though He is preparing it elsewhere, now... He is bringing it with Him, here.
It's not something we are just hoping will happen... It' His original Hope that will be set back right! It's the GOOD NEWS... The gospel message that Paul is referring to here. It's the end goal of the Christian... It's the greatest thing to keep in focus... And The Lord has Paul reminding us (again and throughout His Word) to stop here and set our minds back to the ultimate plan and purpose.
6. "Which has come to you. Indeed, in the whole world [that Gospel] is bearing fruit and still is growing by its own inherent power], even as it has done among yourselves ever since the day you first heard and came to know and understand the grace of God in truth. [You came to know the grace or undeserved favor of God in reality, deeply and clearly and thoroughly, becoming accurately and intimately acquainted with it.]"
Here in verse six, Paul tells us that, "that Gospel he is talking about in verse five, itself, is doing something here in the whole world." The Word... Gods' spoken word (which we know is also Christ Jesus)... which was spoken to not only Paul, but all of the writers of the bible, is bearing fruit and still is growing by its own inherent power]. This is the power of Gods' Word. It's producing it's intended purpose the same way we and everything we can see and beyond was created. God speaks... "let there BE light"... And there WAS light.
This Word (of God) that we are reading right now is powerfully, wonderfully, and mysteriously, changing (renewing) us. Paul asks us to just consider what it's already done, when he says, "even as it has done among yourselves ever since the day you first heard and came to know and understand".
Finally, in verse six, Paul reminds us what it is that we heard... the grace of God in truth. The amplified adds that, we came to know the grace or undeserved favor of God in reality, deeply and clearly and thoroughly, becoming accurately and intimately acquainted with it. I like to be reminded that... That grace is undeserved favor of God in reality. Amen?
Well, I managed to get two verses into the study, today... hehe. We will pick back up in verse seven next time.
I love you.
