"My brethren, pay no servile regard to people [show no prejudice, no partiality]. Do not [attempt to] hold and practice the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ [the Lord] of glory [together with snobbery]!" James 2:1
"Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places"... that's what we do isn't it? James writes to a congregation honoring the rich who come to their worship services. In regarding a selection of people more partial, you show disregard for those not selected. They believed God's favor was over the rich. The rich have great power and authority today in our world. In Biblical times people often thought that riches was a special sign of God's blessings. In today's time, church's are started with the hope that many still believe this, and use it to become wealthy. James reminds us of the sad truth about these very people the church was so eager to please.
Before we move to the next verse, we are reminded not to hate anyone. Before God's Word is through with us, we will see others the way He does... in fact, in the case of the rich, truth is... you can take many a person and put them in a rich man's shoes and watch a sad transformation.
Let's pick up with James verse 2:2 next time.
I love you.
