7. "So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you."
Since the Holy Spirit yearns for us to listen to His leading... "don't do this thing"... "wait"... "go", etc., let's do what He says. If you are not sure when He is leading or if it's the enemy... or even just you, TEST what you are being lead to do against the Holy scriptures... pray for confirmation, get someone you know is a strong Christian to pray with you... whatever it takes to get use to discerning what leads you to do what you do. James says to obey one and resist the other! Our Parents should be, and can be influential in the decisions in life... but James does not mention them in the final decision here, does He. Your Pastor, your friend, your brother... these people can be helpful at times also, but listen... any of these people can be influenced or lead at times by our enemy, and so we have got to learn to Obey God and resist the devil.
Now if the devil presented himself before you as horrible as he is described in these last days, it would be easy to resist him, but James is talking about the suggestions and the whispers of the various demonic spirits, as well as the natural bend (our own flesh), sin within us to follow the evil way of this world. God says that when we resist these things (anything God does not want us to do) they flee. Now, they will be back, you can be certain of that, but for whatever purpose God has set... resisting them for the moment, makes them flee! Maybe they're anxious to get to another victim... I don't know why, but I know if we RESIST evil in the strength of our Lord, Jesus, when these opportunities come up... THEY WILL FLEE.
Let's pick up with James verse 4:8 next time.
I love you.
