8. "Come close to God and He will come close to you. [Recognize that you are] sinners, get your soiled hands clean; [realize that you have been disloyal] wavering individuals with divided interests, and purify your hearts [of your spiritual adultery]."
We cannot come close to God if we cannot resist the devil... go back to verse 7 and work through that verse again before working out verse 8! To draw near to God implies that some ungodly behavior (Jas 4:1-3) and worldliness (Jas 4:4) has put distance between us and God. There is something that needs to be resisted which you keep bringing with you, in trying to get close to God and it won't work this way. God sees that thing behind our back... that thing clenched in our hand, and that thing in our heart. Jesus told His disciples once... "If I don't wash your feet, you cannot have any part with me." Let Jesus wash our feet today... once and for all and resist these things out of our life that keep us from a closer relationship with God.
Let's pick up with James verse 4:9 next time.
I love you.
Hi Preston, trying to catch up some on James; as usual, you always make the Word of God so enlightening.
