"External religious worship [religion as it is expressed in outward acts] that is pure and unblemished in the sight of God the Father is this: to visit and help and care for the orphans and widows in their affliction and need, and to keep oneself unspotted and uncontaminated from the world." James 1:27
The reason we hold God's Word intently before ourselves, is to ultimately get to where we are here in verse 27. You see... the whole purpose of being filled with and knowledgeable of God's Word, is that we will love Him and subsequently allow Him to love us through one another. Read Mat 22:34-40 and then I Cor 13:1-3.
James uses only two of many many expressions from God's Word for loving worship. Keeping ourselves cleansed of the world and at the same time reaching out to the world, is achieved only by the close relationship with Christ, through the Holy Spirit, and intent study of the Law Of Liberty... the Bible. Amen.
Let's pick up with James verse 2:1 next time.
I love you.
